Harry Haxby D.F.M

Distinguished Flying Medal

Harry Haxby was trained as an aeo Engine fitter, but volunteered to be a Flight Engineer in the R.A.F.  He joined 35 squadronfor his fist tour of operations and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal in 1942.  In 1943 Harry was commissioned and completed his second tour with the Pathfinders.  Two of his 48 missions were against the Tirpitz.  He also flew Lord Tedder (Marshall of the R.A.F.) to Yalta prior to the conference of Churchill Roosevelt and Stalin.

In World War II flying medals, D.F.M. stands for the Distinguished Flying Medal, a British military honor awarded to non-commissioned officers (NCOs) and enlisted personnel for gallantry, courage, or devotion to duty while flying in active operations against the enemy, serving as the equivalent to the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for officers.

World War II Canadian Medal Group – Attributed Multi-Medal Service Set

An impressive and complete **World War II Canadian medal group**, representing overseas service, campaign participation, and post-war recognition. This group consists of a well-balanced combination of campaign stars and service medals, correctly mounted and displayed on original ribbons, reflecting an authentic Canadian serviceman’s wartime career.

The group includes the **1939–45 Star**, **Italy Star**, **France and Germany Star**, **Defence Medal**, **Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Maple Leaf clasp**, and the **War Medal 1939–45**, forming a classic and desirable Canadian WWII entitlement. The presence of multiple campaign stars indicates active overseas service in major European theatres, most notably Italy and Northwest Europe, highlighting a soldier who saw meaningful operational duty rather than home service alone.

All medals show appropriate period wear and honest patina consistent with age and service use. The ribbons display expected fading and character, adding to the authenticity and originality of the group. The medals are swing-mounted in traditional fashion, suitable for display, collection, or further research and attribution.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a **complete Canadian WWII medal group**, ideal for collectors of Canadian military history, World War II memorabilia, or museum-quality displays. Groups of this calibre, particularly with multiple campaign stars, are increasingly difficult to source and remain strong performers in the militaria market.
